This past weekend, Scotland’s first Rural Youth Action Network (RYAN) Residential took place in Inverness, bringing together over 60 young people aged 16-30 from across rural and island Scotland. The event, co-designed by young people, was a collaborative effort involving the Young Islanders Network, Youth Local Action Groups, Connecting Young Carers, Young Farmers clubs, Climate Action Hubs, and many more passionate organisations.
Throughout the weekend, participants engaged in interactive workshops, group sessions, presentations, and study trips, strengthening their connections and expanding the RYAN network. With the support of MSPs, guest speakers, and experts from the Scottish Government and Parliament, young leaders had the opportunity to shape discussions on the future of rural Scotland, ensuring their voices are heard at the highest levels.
The event was about more than just learning—it was about empowerment, collaboration, and action. It provided a platform for young people to explore their individual, local, and collective priorities, while building direct relationships with decision-makers.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who made this event possible, including our wonderful venue Royal Highland Hotel, our inspiring study trip hosts, and our fantastic partners Youth Scotland, Scottish Rural Network, and Scottish Government.
This is just the beginning—stay tuned for more RYAN updates and exciting opportunities!
